Irish Cattle Breeding Federation
Overview
ICBF exists to benefit farmers through genetic gain. They do this through the application of science and technology to ensure that farming industry make the most profitable and sustainable decisions through the use of the services provided by the ICBF cattle breeding database. Ultimately this revolves around the maintenance and growth of the national cattle breeding database, which holds information on practically all animals registered nationally and any available performance data relating to those animals and the herds in which they reside.
How did we engage with the customer?
We engaged with the technical and business teams to fully understand the current solution and the challenges that faced ICBF. We fully documented the business and technical process and mapped out a more modern solution that could deliver on the key requirements based on mobile endpoints and the best in class digital platform. We worked on streamlining the cumbersome processes and introducing new technology to make the overall solution functionally better whilst also saving significant costs for ICBF.
How did we solve their challenges?
With our understanding of the key challenges and the desired outcomes we designed a solution around mobile devices, these devices are ruggedized and water proof and are designed to work in the harshest environments. This is a key requirement for ICBF given the nature of the environments they are working in.
The customer needs and challenges
We worked with ICBF to understand the current challenges which primarily involved mobilizing access to the national database in a secure and cost effective manner. The solution in place was based around bulkier and more expensive mobile devices running a variant of the Windows OS.
“MacroEV have been instrumental in enabling us to mobilise our clients giving them secure access to our database and crucial information anywhere at anytime. Implementing a mobile based system both helped us to implement our digital transformation strategy and to do this in the most cost effective manner. Implementing this solution saved us massively on our operating costs, and will continue to provide cost savings going forward”
Danny O’Leary – Support AnalystWhat were the main challenges the customer was facing?
ICBF have developed their own mobile application which is used to provide mobile access to the their national genome database. The existing solution involved expensive cumbersome handsets and a management platform that was difficult to make agile in life changes to devices in the field and was very difficult to over the air manage OS and application versions in real time. ICBF were looking for a more cost effective solution with the ability to use more modern digital technology to deliver an efficient modern experience for their clients.
