Overview

Transdev Ireland Dublin Light Rail Limited (TDLR) operate Luas, Dublin’s Light Rail system. TDLR is part of Transdev Ireland, a leading player in the mobility market, a group with a solid business base operating in 19 countries, committed to operating sustainable, inclusive public transportation for all passengers. Key to the operation of the Luas system is the effective maintenance and repair of the rail tram infrastructure.

How did we engage with the customer?

We collaborated closely with the TDLR to gain an understanding of the current solution, and the challenges faced by TDLR Maintenance and Engineering team. We identified key areas for improvement. We then mapped out a modern device management solution leveraging mobile endpoints and a best-in-class digital platform to meet the core requirements.

Our approach focused on streamlining cumbersome manual processes and integrating new technology and automation of the solution. This not only improved performance, and reliability of the devices but also resulted in setup and support cost savings for TDLR.

How did we solve their challenges?

We implemented a device management solution integrated with ruggedized android devices. Automation of the device setup and enrollment process ensues the fast provisioning of new devices. A secure kiosk along with restrictions was used to secure the device based on the required apps and functionality and the easy allocation of devices to engineers.

Challenges

Working closely with TDLR the provided solution secured and protected the engineering devices ensuring that the engineer only has access to the required apps and settings and the device is returned to the standard build settings at end of user activity, ready for the next engineer. Devices require little effort to ensure they remain operational and additional devices can be added with ease.

What were the main challenges the customer was facing?

TDLR have several corporate apps needed by their engineering and maintenance team. These apps were to be provided securely via a corporate identity on ruggedized devices. It was important that when a user picks up a device that it would be automatically configured, additional user apps installed and operating in a matter of minutes. Likewise, all user content is securely removed when the user activity ends. The device status is constantly visible via the management console. A combination of device restrictions and kiosk is used to ensure that the devices is always operational. A full suite of management features ensures that for example a devices can be remotely wiped if needed.
